Where Lies The Secret?

“The hardest thing for most livestock producers to realize is that we are not in the cattle business. We are in the grass business. We are in effect grass farmers. Grass is the beginning/ the end and everything in between in natural cattle production. It deserves both our respect and attention” – Allan Nation. Editor, The Stockman Grass Farmer.

Life on a farm is a school of patience; you can’t hurry the crops or make an ox in two days.

If we estimate dignity by immediate usefulness, agriculture is undoubtedly the first and noblest science.

Meat Processing: Meat-On-Call

Although South Africa has a strong reputation when it comes to livestock farming, the country remains a net importer of beef, pork and sheep meat, as well as live sheep, goats, cattle and weaned calves. In particular, local demand outstrips supply in the case of beef and sheep, with a total of some 10% of locally available beef and 24% of locally available sheep meat being imported.

In addition, approximately 190 000 weaned calves are annually imported, as well as 200 000 live goats from Namibia. Despite this, South Africa’s climate is ideally suited for livestock farming, and it is clearly one of the most viable agricultural activities across large swathes of the country.

Wildlife Wealth is establishing the largest fully integrated commercial beef operation and becoming one of the players in that segment of the meat market. In the meat industry, the competitive factors include price, product quality, brand value, product range and customer service.

We have acquired a stake in abattoirs for slaughtering cattle and packaging into our retail stores, Meat-On-Call. We identified a gap in the market for slaughtering cattle on site and supplying meat directly to the consumers and thereby bypassing the middleman. We a viable business with huge potential for growth, as evidenced by the fact that local demand for beef currently outstrips supply.
